Can You Use Yeast Medication if You Only Think You Have Yeast? and What Is the Best Approach to Take…?
Well, I’m a little embarrassed that I have to ask one here…
But my own mother didn’t know how to answer me.. :/
And I’m putting off the doctor’s visit…
I know what yeast infections are like. Unfortionatly, I usually don’t know I have one till it’s hitting full force and burning and itching. The last two weeks I’ve been on two antibiotics for a stomach bacteria… Tetracycline and Flagyl… The flagyl has been bothering my stomach and digestive system and is a very strong antibiotic when in comparison to tetracycline. I KNOW I get yeast when I take antibiotics. When I eat yogurt, it sometimes prevents it.. I’ve been eating one to two a day… Most days :/.. I forget sometimes..
Anyway.. A couple days ago I had this "weird feeling"… Today I notice a bit of itching.. Nothing crazy and no burning…
Could this be the start of a yeast infection?
I figure I will go ahead at treat it with OTC medication… I recently had to switch to a new doctor due to change in insurance.. But I definately am not comfortable talking about it with him.. I know that’s what he’s there for, but ya know :/.. I don’t want to be "checked" when i could purchase something from the store to fix the problem…
But is it bad to use a OTC if it ends up not being one? Btw, there is no chance it is an STD. My other doesn’t have any and has been checked, and I don’t sleep around.
Also, last time I got OTC medicine for yeast I got the cheapest one that had to be used for 7 days, and it didn’t work.. I ended up at the doctors office.
Is there a specific kind that works best, and is likely to do the trick?
Does it help if I catch it earlier?
How much will this medication cost? Roughly?
Side affects?
How often does this actually work and treat it?
I’m sure I have other questions I can’t think of right at the moment, so anything extra is appreciated…
I’m a little freaked out about this whole ordeal. So ANY information will be helpful, and will hopefully calm my nerves.. I’m a bit of a high-strung person anyway… And when I feel that something wrong could be happening to my body, it freaks me out. I’m sure it freaks anyone out tho…
But thank you before hand!

If you were on antibiotics then there is a strong chance that it is a yeast infection starting.
And yes if you use OTC drugs to treat a non-existant yest inefection it’s a bad thing.
Basically the reason you have a yeast infection is because there’s an imbalance in your body. A healthy person has a balance between the yeast in their body and the good bacteria in their body.
Too much yeast, you have a yeast infection. Too much bacteria, you have a bacterial infection.
So, when you have a yeast infection you essentially have too much yeast in your body. The natural way to treat it and bring back that balance is to starve the yeast and introduce more good bacteria into your body.
Oh and BTW – That’s why you often get relief from using the over the counter meds temporarily, and then the yeast infection comes back. The creams aren’t changing the source of the problem. They are just killing the yeast they come in contact with, and not balancing the yeast/bacteria in your body and actually sometimes end up making things a lot worse. This is also why treating a non-existing yeast infection can cause a bacterial infection.
Oh BTW2 – That’s also why many times you’ll get a yeast infection after using anti-biotics. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria in your body, the good and the bad. When that happens the balance between the yeast and good bacteria is off once again and you get a yeast infection.
Things you can add to your diet (to help promote good bacteria) are live yogurt cultures (or take Acidophilus), plenty of water, fresh vegetables, lots of protein rich foods, whey protein, raw garlic, nuts, seeds, oils, millet, rice and oat brans
Things you should remove from your diet (to starve the yeast) are all sodas, sugars, fruit, fermented foods, foods containing white flour, alcohol (especially beer), antacids and any product that has yeast or mold
You can change your diet in conjunction with using the OTC creams and that will speed up the recovery significantly. But personally what I would do instead is use a homeopathic solution. I always feel if there’s a natural way to do something, then it’s best to avoid the chemicals. I would look for an natural product, that can be taken orally to promote regrowth of the good bacteria in your body (this will also not cause you to get a bacterial infection if you mis-self-diagnose).
There are a few out there, I think they are probably all pretty good. One that I have used and was very effective for me was is yeastrol. Here’s the link I used if you are interested in finding out more.
