What Can Cause Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)?
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a very common infection that a woman will get in her vagina. It is caused by the overgrowth of bad bacteria in the vagina, which multiplies until it becomes an infection. Although there is no single cause for the infection, there are several risk factors.
Not wiping properly after a bowel movement is a very common risk factor that could contribute to you getting bacterial vaginosis. When wiping after a bowel movement, make sure that you are always wiping from front to back to avoid any feces getting near the vagina.
Wearing clothing that is too tight, such as tight panties or pants is another major risk factor. Additionally, wearing thongs can also make you more susceptible as the back part of the thong can rub against both your anus and your vagina.
Sex is another common contributor. Ensure that everything that goes into your vagina is completely clean to avoid any bacteria getting spread.
Even though there is not a single cause of bacterial vaginosis (BV), there are many risk factors that you should watch out for if you want to avoid getting this type of infection. By avoiding the behaviors above, you will be much less likely to ever get this condition.

Yeast infections are not considered to be sexually transmitted infections (STI) because a celibate woman can develop them, but having unprotected sex can pass them along. A man who has unprotected sex with a woman who has an active yeast infection can get a penile yeast infection. Transmission of genital yeast infections from woman to man is uncommon, but it does happen.
